What should high school graduates know and be able to do to prepare them for success in a college and/or career setting?
Of course, success after high school includes reading, math, science, and social studies skills. However, I would also add financial literacy, social and communication skills, and time management.
Financial Literacy:
Students should know how to budget, understand different types of bank accounts, and hold a basic understanding of investing.
Social and Communication Skills:
The ability to think critically and support written or verbal arguments with evidence is crucial.
Students should know how to research to find information that they don’t know yet.
Graduates should be able to work well with others and communicate professionally.
Time Management:
By high school graduation, students should know how to manage their time effectively.
