Ada’s mom tells her she wouldn’t be welcomed by anyone, but Ada goes anyway, and finds someone who genuinely cares for her.

The War That Saved My Life was awarded multiple awards: Newberry Honor Book, #1 New York Times Bestseller, Schneider Family Book Award, Wall Street Journal Best Children’s Books of 2015, and New York Public Library’s 100 Books for Reading and Sharing! These awards are well deserved. This book is great for middle schoolers and up, and would be an engaging read-aloud to learn history through books.
